Seattle Times Best of Northwest Ranking Points

| Jun 19, 2011 | Uncategorized

The Seattle Times released its annual list of the best companies in the Pacific Northwest. This year’s list marks the 20th anniversary of the Times rankings. Business lawyers in Seattle or Portland, and their clients, should take note.

In some respects, these ranking are more telling now than in the boom times. It takes a special level of innovation, efficiency and dedication to survive a recession, and it requires true talent to thrive in one.

The Times noted that, “With only a few exceptions, the best Northwest companies share some attributes. Among them are global reach, nimbleness, mastery of their core business and strong leadership.”

Attracting and retaining top talent is also a uniting factor. The report concluded that high tech is no longer a sector. Instead, it is a reality across all sectors.

I won’t spoil all the results here, but the winner? Seattle’s Starbucks. Check out the online home to the Time’s listing here, and a sortable database here. The weekend edition of the Seattle Times explained the criteria, provided the list and spotlighted some particularly interesting stories.

Of note for the Slinde Nelson firm is that Precision Castparts, a year-after-year mainstay on the list, checked in again in the Top 20. This, despite the departure of in-house counsel, Darian Stanford, who joined Slinde Nelson in 2011. Go figure.
